Air Force civil engineers have a long and exciting history. They built a landing strip in Normandy on D-Day; assembled miles of revetments at bases in South Vietnam to protect hundreds of aircraft; constructed a base for more than 6,000 people in the Saudi desert in a matter of weeks; and operated bases in Iraq. They built the Air Force Academy, radar sites in the Arctic, and a fighter base on the beach at Tuy Hoa, South Vietnam.
